Malachi
(meaning "my messenger") is the last of the prophetic books and of the
Christian Old Testament. "Malachi" was most likely a title rather than a
person's name. Malachi reflects on many problems of Judah about 500 BC
and looks to the imminent, hopeful coming of a (messianic) "messenger of the
covenant" who would prepare the community for a final judgment - a
fitting theme linking the Testaments.
