ASCENSION
DAY is a Principal Feast of the Church Year. The Prayer Book Catechism
speaks of the Ascension in this way: "We mean that Jesus took our human nature
into heaven where he now reigns with the Father and intercedes for us." (p.
850) Christians differ as to whether the few New Testament references to the
Ascension are to be understood literally or symbolically. In either case, the
Church affirms that the Risen Lord and Christ lives now with the Father.
